This stem means "no, not" and gives Q. _laa_ and _lala, also _lau_, _laume_ (= _laa ume_), "no, no indeed not, on the contrary". With a word for "yes" it's difficult. We don't have any basic word for it given by Tolkien. But we could use a transcription that was used on Mellonath Dearon page. It's *_tancave_ - an adverb derived from adj. _tanca_ "fixed, firm, sure" (Etym under TAK, LR:389), thus meaning "surely, certainly". Other basic words I can recollect now: *_hantale_ "thankgiving" - isolated from _Eruhantale_ "Thankgiving to Eru", could be used as "thanks" (we can also isolate *_hanta_ "thank(s), give(s) thank") _aiya_ "hail, *hello" _namaarie_ "farewell" And some interjections: _en_ "look!, there, yonder" _yee_ probably "yeah" _ai_ *"ah, alas" _ela_ "look!, see!, lo!"
